Rules of play

  1. 1.Teams

    • Each team consists of two players.
    • Each group is two teams, four players in all, who play together and keep each other's score.
  2. 2.Scramble format

    • Every player on the team hits a tee shot on every hole.
    • The team selects the best shot, and every player then plays their next shot from that spot.
    • Continue this way until the ball is holed. Record one score per team for each hole.
  3. 3.Ball placement

    • Once the best shot is selected, every player plays from within one club length of that spot, no closer to the hole.
    • The ball must stay in the same type of lie. A ball in the rough cannot be moved into the fairway, and a ball in a bunker stays in the bunker.
    • On the putting green, play from within one putter-head length of the selected spot, no closer to the hole.
  4. 4.Tee shots

    • Both players tee off on every hole, and each player's tee shot must be used at least six times over the round.
  5. 5.Scorekeeping

    • Teams do not keep their own official scorecard. The other team in your group keeps your team's official score, and your team keeps theirs. Announce and agree on the score after every hole.
  6. 6.Score verification

    • At the end of the round, the teams in a group review the scorecards together.
    • A player from each team confirms that their team's hole-by-hole scores are correct, and the cards are signed before they are turned in.
    • Once a scorecard is submitted, the score is final unless the tournament committee finds a scoring error.
  7. 7.Putting

    • Once a player holes the putt, the hole is complete.
    • A player should not putt out if doing so would deny a partner the chance to play the selected putt.
  8. 8.Out of bounds, lost ball, and penalty areas

    • The standard golf penalty rules apply unless the organizers say otherwise on the day.
    • Every penalty stroke counts in the team's score.
  9. 9.Mulligans

    • Mulligans are sold at registration and on the day. A mulligan replays one shot from the same spot.
    • A mulligan cannot be used on a putt, and a team may use at most one mulligan per hole.
  10. 10.Scoring

    • The team's total is the sum of its hole scores for the round. The lowest gross total wins.
    • Handicaps are collected only to balance the teams. They never adjust the score.
  11. 11.Ties

    • A tie is decided by scorecard playoff: the lowest score on the back nine, then the last six holes, then the last three, then the 18th hole.
    • If still tied, the organizers decide the method on the day.
  12. 12.Pace of play

    • Keep up with the group in front of you.
    • Choose the best shot quickly, and be ready to play when it is your turn.
  13. 13.Sportsmanship

    • Everyone plays honestly and respectfully.
    • Because teams keep each other's scores, both teams in a group agree on the score before leaving each hole.
    • Bring any rules dispute to the tournament organizers before the scorecard is submitted.
